Do you believe in magic?

The question was asked Do you believe in magic. It was initially stated that
The creation of life is magical. God is magical, you are magical, and I am magical. Do you believe in magic?
Magic can be defined as the art of illusion. Magic could mean anything or nothing at all. I am amused that you were initially saying that everyone is magical and God is magical. You thought you were making all the sense in the world by not explaining yourself. Now its just down to do we believe in magic. But you are more than likely not talking about do I believe in the existence of magicians. You are not talking about the art of illusion either. You’re probably talking about supernatural occurrences which is not magic at all.
People link supernatural occurrences to magic but magic is the art of illusion. Magic makes things appear to be something other than what it really is. Do I believe in the supernatural? But that wasn’t your question. Magic is not the belief in the supernatural. That’s an illusion.

As an atheist who thinks the “no evidence” argument is convincing, what do you think of thoughtful, intelligent theists who are unconvinced by it? Gary Smith

Hello Kenneth, I am the OP. Thanks for the thoughtful, intelligent response. I am a theist and I too am interested in the origin of today’s Christian idea of God. Here are my thoughts on the matter.

If you go way back in the history of religion, not only of Judaism, but of all religions, about 3000 years ago and beyond, you will find the worship of the male and female sex organ, the Vulva and the Phallos. These religions were, for the most part, shamanic. They were what today we would call a Rave. They were wild orgiastic affairs with holy prostitutes, both male and female, usually on a high place. I think you can find evidence for that in the Book of Samuel. On the High Places, people would gather for a Phallic Cult with all the attendant dancing and music. It was more or less like a Pentecostal service today but even more sexual. A lot of people were falling down, just as happened to Saul. On a neighboring hill top there were the worshipers of the Goddess.

Then somewhere around 600 or 700 BC, a goodly number of the Israelites had had enough of this old God with his sexual Plallos and they rebelled. They demanded He have no body and that he become a moral, intellectual Principle instead. They even wrote new Laws that prohibited such lewd behavior as was going on. The same rebellion was going on in other religions, There was a movement away from the wild gyrations of a sexual religion to a more politically “moral” religion. Proper Calvinists were replacing the Pentecostals. The same thing happened in Greece with their religion.

So what about today’s American religion? For the most part it is a return of the shamanic practices of old. And that is because the American Religion, which goes by the name of Christianity is really much more strongly grounded in Africa and the Red Indian culture than it is in Europe. Black slaves had a very big influence, but of course many white people don’t want to admit that. If you look at the American Religion you will see that for the most part the believer closes his eyes, goes inward and meets Jesus. They walk and talk together. That is NOT European Christianity. That is Shamanism. The Soul of your soul, your Friend, the Spirit comes into you. And you are moved. That is the return of the Wild and jabbering Holy Spirit. In a sense the American Religion is a return to the High Places of ancient Israel. And, truth be known, the sexuality is also present.

You can find some of that in the Dionysian/Erotic religion of ancient Greece. And you can find it here in Kathmandu, Nepal, where the Lingum (Phallos) of Shiva is still greatly honored.

I am a Christian today because I walk and talk with the Shamanic Jesus. It is a charismatic thing. A phallic cult.

The Bible Is So Wrong About So Much

…It’s OK to not believe any of it!

T.Jefferson God denial

If the Bible is the inspired word of God, then why is it so wrong about so much?

There is no evidence that what the Bible says about any of the events below is true; and that is the truth.

Paul is so wrong about so much, why do you believe anything he says? The Truth

If the Bible is wrong about its foundation stories, what reason is there to believe anything in the Bible?

Why does an omnipotent, omniscient God text limit “his word” to technologies of bronze age man. Swords? Chariots? Really?

Why does God not know more than the ignorant, superstitious, Bronze age men who wrote the Bible? Why didn’t He tell us about germs?

How can you possibly love, worship and praise THIS GOD?

As an atheist who thinks the “no evidence” argument is convincing, what do you think of thoughtful, intelligent theists who are unconvinced by it?

Kenneth Andre Brown Sr aka AbsolveAsGaad:Self-Employed

The question asked As an atheist who thinks the “no evidence” argument is convincing, what do you think of thoughtful, intelligent theists who are unconvinced by it?

No matter how thoughtful and intelligent I think I am and I think anyone else is it does not make them flawless without weakness. It makes them and me plausible to make an error. This includes ones concept of a deity or God.

Where did the concept of a Judeo-Christian Abrahamic God derive from? The concept of a Judeo Christian Abrahamic God derived from a Hebrew concept of an Abrahamic God. Most if not all Christian religious text derived from Hebrew writers who had specific ideas they held when they wrote their text. Now Christians can completely reinterpret them with no regard to what those Hebrew writers intended for the text to mean. Now Jesus the Jew can become the Christian savior of the world. But why wasn’t he the Jewish savior? According to Christians the Jews disobeyed God. According to the Jews their Messiah was supposed to help them gain Israel as their homeland. Their Messiah was supposed to not go against the authority of the religious priest. Jesus didn’t do any of these things.

Do Christians share this concept of God with the Hebrews? If not then where did the concept of an Abrahamic God of the Christians come from if it wasn’t the same Hebrew Abrahamic God of the Jews? Christians took many of the things the Jews or Hebrews believed and then tweaked them to be more fitting to them. In other words a group of Christians made the stuff up. They changed God, his Angels and the overall religion.

Does the Bible mention Elohim?

The question asked Does the Bible mention Elohim? It all depends on who’s telling the story.
The Christian Bible was supposed to have been derived from Hebrew scrolls. Of course the term or word God would have been either Elohim, Adonai or Yahweh in Hebrew.
Where one text may say God said “Let us make man in our image” another text may have said “Elohim said Let us make mortal man in our image.” Elohim could have been singular or plural for a monarch among Angels or spirit beings or Elohim could have been the collective Angels as angelic beings. So when a Monarchical God says “Let us make mortal man in our image” such a deity would have been speaking to angels. Which Angels would such a deity have been speaking? There would have been a wife and the offspring of such a deity as part of its royal court. Knowing this gives separate interpretations. Not knowing this would cause a general interpretation unlike that of a person knowing more about the Hebrew script.
Somehow most Christians never learn anything about Hebrew. It would seem to me that as a Christian I would want to know the most about the origin of my own religious beliefs. In part this was what caused my Atheism.

Atheists do not believe in a God or Gods, what about ghosts and spirits?

Kenneth Andre Brown Sr aka Absolve AsGaad:  Self-Employed

The question asked Atheists do not believe in a God or Gods, what about ghosts and spirits?

Someone said the belief in God is not the same as the belief in ghosts and spirits. That’s untrue. God is said to be a holy ghost and a ghost was supposed to be a spirit.

What is a ghost really? A ghost is an image. A ghost is usually considered a transparent version of a physical person. Some medieval people thought that when a physical person dies there was a transparent version of that person within that physical person. When the physical body breaks down and deteriorates a religious person is immediately teleported to a court of law made for immortals. In such a court a monarchical God presides as a Judge to determine if the person should be sentenced to hell or heaven. Both hell and heaven were only prescribed for immortals. Once a person died they actually immediately became immortal. The immortal was generally known as an Angel.

You see all ghost, were spirits, were angels, were Gods were immortals. Over time religious followers were only dictated what and how to think by their religious leaders. Many of the details of this belief were selectively concealed over time. Most Abrahamic religious followers know almost nothing about their own beliefs because they are only dictated selective fragments. This is part of why Atheist become atheist who were one theist.

Atheist have come to terms with the fact that medieval religions were made up by a people using what limited knowledge they possessed. Their medieval beliefs have been long disproved. Human death was determined as a time when the physical human brain ceases to function. At one time it was thought that death occurred when the human heart ceased to function. We determined that was incorrect because a human heart has been shut down on purpose and replaced and restarted. As long as the physical brain continued to function we could still live.

So we as a people use our physical brain to lie about a religion where non physical people with non physical brains live.We refer to these non physical people as spirit people. yet everything in the so called spirit world is made up of atoms and elements, compounds and mixtures just like our physical material world is. Its all an image based by imagination.

Who did god tell his story of what he created and is it only hearsay and not written by him?

Kenneth Andre Brown Sr aka Absolve AsGaad:  Self-Employed

The question asked Who did God tell his story of what he created and is it only hearsay and not written by him?

It all depends on who’s telling the story. For the most part religious leaders do not allow their God to have any say so. They clearly told their God to remain silent and invisible. If God disobeys the religious leaders have threatened to stop supporting, praying, constantly praising and worshiping such a God. This put such an omnipotent God in a tight spot.
